A Letter to My Uncle telling Him the Reason for The Constant Nagging in My Family by : 3:56 am On January 12, 2025

A nagging problem in your family has so far defied all solutions. Write a letter to an uncle of your stating what the problem is and giving reasons why he should intervene.

It’s quite a long time I heard from you last. I begin to wonder if anything has gone wrong from your end. I have written two letters to you about a nagging problem in the family but no reply, yet you are not the careless type who is lackadaisical about replying to letters. But who knows what must have happened to the letters in transit? This is consequent upon the deplorable postal system and corrupt postal staff in our country. All efforts made to solve the nagging problem have proved abortive.

The nagging problem is our father’s illness coupled with poverty. The problem started some five years go when  Daddy was involved in a ghastly accident. Our father escaped death by hairs breadth as he as the only survivor in the accident. The accident occurred along Lagos-Ibadan expressway. Daddy had a compound fracture which rendered his legs useless. He was admitted at University of Ibadan (UCH) for months but there was no improvement. In fact, things got to the head when in December 1997, the hospital management proposed to amputate the legs. We disapproved the proposed amputation, rather was sought for cure elsewhere.

A concerned family friend informed us of  trado-medical doctor in Kumasi, Ghana. We had  no alternative than to sell Daddy’s only plot of land at Ikeja to take the trip to Ghana.. we arrived Ghana in April, 1998 for the cure. The herbalist billed daddy the sum of one hundred and fifty thousand naira in our own ‘naira’  equivalence. He tried his best possible but to no avail as he was not completely cured. He left Ghana for Nigeria in October 1999 to seek for total cure. All along, Mummy has sold nearly all her personal property to maintain the family up till January this year when she decided to work for someone as a house-help.

Right now, the Medical Director of Orthopaedic Hospital, Igbobi, Lagos has promised to treat the rest bone problem within three months. This was a cheering news except that the bill is eighty thousand naira. This is likely t make the mission impossible due to inability of the family to raise the fund. Now, the family has been ejected from where it has lived for two decades. Poverty is the order of the day. Indeed things have fallen apart and the centre can no longer hold.

Your timely intervention in the current crisis is the only solution. We need  a total of one hundred and eighty five thousand naira (two thousand, five hundred dollars) to complete all expenses including medical and the rest. You are the messiah sent to this family to bring us out of the chronic predicament. The reasons why you need to intervene in this matter are numerous. First,  you are the only member of the family working abroad and who has the means. Also, you are the next to our daddy in the family. Finally, you are the only one who is enlightened to know the duties Daddy has performed and can still perform.

In conclusion, there is no doubt in my mind that you are convinced beyond any shadow of doubt why you need to intervene in no time. Please, send the money through the First Bank-Western Union Money Transfer to the family account at First Bank at Agege. Mr. and Mrs. J.O. Ojokuku Acc. No 229220. The earlier the money is sent the better. Good bye and God bless.
