A Letter to The Chairman Highlighting the Effects of The Poor State of the facilities in my school by : 3:31 pm On May 15, 2018

The poor state of the facilities in your school is causing the students great concern. As the Senior Prefect, write a letter to the Chairman of the Board of Governors highlighting the problems and requesting him to come to the aid of the school.

The poor state of facilities in my school

As concerned students of the above-named seminary, I deem it necessary to intimate you of the deplorable condition of facilities in the school.

By virtue of being the Senior Prefect, I have been able to observe that most of the facilities in the school are in deplorable conditions and a few others lacking.

Firstly, I thank you, Mr. Chairman, members of your cabinet and those of the past regime for establishing this noble institution with sophisticated facilities and equipment provided in it. I want to bring to your awareness that most of those facilities are now in shambles.

To start with, the school library is nothing to write home about. There are only few books contained there. Most of these books are outdated. These books are not beneficial or very useful to students because they are not the recommended textbooks in the syllabus.

This predicament has caused the students a great deal. The students can no longer carry out some researches due to the scarcity of modern textbooks.

Also, the vocabulary development of the students is very low because there are no new novels, magazines and newspapers. I call on you to look into t his issue urgently because a school without a library is just like soup without salt.

Furthermore, the administrative block of the school is not in good conditions. The classrooms are not properly ventilated. There are very few desks and chairs and the chalkboard is no longer useful. The worst of it all is that the classrooms cannot accommodate the growing number of students who enroll in the school every year. Normally, a classroom which should have only thirty-five students is over-stressed to contain about sixty students.

These problems hinder effective and efficient learning/teaching tasks. Moreover, the hostels cannot accommodate the increasing number of students. The hostels now stink to heavens as a result of over-population of students.

Also, the rainstorm which accrued some weeks ago has contributed immensely to the deplorable condition of the hostels. During the storm, louvers were shattered, a part of the roof was removed and some electric peoples uprooted.

Moreover, it is worthy of note that this school does not have a well-equipped laboratory. Numerous number of equipment and chemicals are not available. Some equipment and apparatuses like Kipp’s apparatus, conical flask and test tubes are not provided in the Chemistry laboratory.

Some chemicals like hydrochloric acid and sodium hydroxide solutions are also insufficient in the laboratory. The physics laboratory lacks equipment like meter rule; and instruments like ammeter, voltmeter, etc.

The Biology laboratory has nothing but some dead and preserved animals like snakes and fishes. Sporting facilities are also in short supply in our school and this has negatively affected our performances and rating in sporting activities in the state.

Sir, I appeal to you to urgently look into these problems with a view to finding solutions to them to promote the school’s academic, economic, social and physical well-being and rating among schools and colleges across the state and the nation as a whole.
