Write a story on the topic: “An experience I’d love to have again”. AN EXPERIENCE I’D LOVE TO HAVE AGAIN I spent my last holiday in Cameroon and the experience was a very memorable one for me. It all started when I got a letter from my elder sister whose husband works as a sales representative to a Swiss firm in Yaounde. She asked if I would spend the Xmas holiday with her. I was all too happy to wait for my parents’ consent before I could send a letter through seed-post to accept the offer. The idea of staying at home throughout each holiday was becoming unbearable. Often, when we go back to school, other boys recount their experiences. This was my own opportunity and I was becoming so much determined not to let it slip. Luckily for me, my parents sluggishly agreed. The holiday came. I was to travel by air on the 24th. The 23rd seemed to crawl. At last, the D-day came. It was an early morning flight. By father mumbled something about seat belts, safety jackets and other things. But I was too happy to understand or listen attentively. It was slightly cold, so I put on my red leather jacket. There were smiles and envious eyes around me. We boarded a bus that was to take us to the airport. Soon the engine roared and we took off. In another ten seconds, we were air-borne. It was a very wonderful experience. It was my first experience in an airplane and also the first time I would travel alone, not only outside the town but outside the country. None of the other boys would have a better story to tell when the holidays end. Would they? No, I thought. I was still basking in my admiration when all of a sudden; my seat seemed to give way under me. I almost melted with fear, hence I clutched the seat in front of me. I was rallied when the voice on the microphone announced that we were on descent for landing. It was a most surprising experience, most especially seeing all these beautiful cities, villages that looked like specks, valleys, hills and mountains from above I was still enmeshed in my great excitement when my sister swept me off my feet in a warm embrace. I got several pats on the back from her husband. We finally got to their apartment where we were met by a horde of children’s voices giggling and shouting at us. I enjoyed myself immensely throughout my stay there as I played a lot and was taken on a tour of Yaounde. At last, came the day that I dreaded: the day of departure. I was not happy that I was leaving so soon but leave I must. So I returned to Nigeria. When I sit sometimes and remember this enjoyment and fantastic trip, it dawns on me that it is an experience I’d love to have again. Tags: ESSAY |
