Courtois has signed a six year contract deal with the La Liga club until 2024.

Chelsea confirmed the departure of the 26-year-old with a statement on their website, signing off with praise for their former goalkeeper.

“He has played an important role in the club’s success, and we wish him the best of luck for the future,” it read.

Real Madrid posted a video of the 26-year-old Belgium international signing his contract alongside club president Florentino Perez.

“Today I am realising a dream,” said Courtois.

“This is the best club in the world,” added Courtois, who signed for Chelsea in June 2011 from Genk.

After completing his medical earlier today, Courtois has been presented at the Bernabeu.

Courtois heads to La Liga off the back of an impressive World Cup performances with Belgium.

Courtois won the Golden Glove Award and kept three clean sheets in Russia, including two against England.

The shotstopper spent seven years with Chelsea but his first three seasons were on loan at Atletico Madrid.

He won two Premier League titles, one FA Cup and one League Cup during his career at Stamford Bridge.
