Debate: The Television is Doing More Harm Than good to Our Youths by prosper: 2:00 pm On May 15, 2018 |
Your school’s Literary and Debating Society has organized a debate on the topic: “The Television is Doing More Harm. Than good to Our Youths. “Write your contribution for or against the topic. The Television Is Doing More Harm Than Good To Our Youths Good day Mr. Chairman, Panel of Judges, Accurate Time Keeper, Ladies and Gentlemen. I wish to vividly support the motion which says “The television is doing more harm than good to our youths”. The television is a powerful medium which combines both the visual and audio functions into one system. The colour television is even more attractive than its black and white counterpart but you will also agree with me that in its strength of attraction lies its weakness. Youths are no more themselves. The television is their teacher. Even materials not meant for them are openly shown to them unrestricted such as s****l acts, hooliganism, and d***s. “Cigarette is good for you”, “Beer is y our best companion” – this are advertisers’ choice of words in television. I am sure that you will agree that these are potential harm to the youths. Moreover, education is the guest legacy our parents can bequeath to us. The education which we can only get in the school is also being taken away from us by television. Many students live home in the morning pretending to go to school but they soon return home after their parents might have gone to work or merely branch at a friend’s place from where they go to a place of their choice to watch television. It is possible for my opponent to clam that the television is educative and informative. These facts are true but after these functions, it becomes destructive and facilitates dropouts among our youths who become truants because they want to watch other programmes on television. I will not conclude this debate without asking my opponents these few questions. Do you wish to be a dropout? Would you want your children to be drug addicts? Tags: ESSAY |
