Has Nigeria Ever Won the World Cup? by : 2:30 am On June 24, 2018

The question “Has Nigeria ever worn the world cup?” is a type of question that is mostly common among newbies in football. For me, I would have preferred the question “Has Nigeria ever qualified for the world cup” to the other way round. To cut it short, Nigeria has never in the history of football won the World Cup. Nigeria has never reached the quarter-finals in the World Cup, come to talk of winning the world cup.

Nigeria played her first world cup in 1994 after  years of struggle to reach there. However, they were kicked off by Italy some minutes to the quarter-finals. In 1998, Nigeria’s dream to enter the quarter-finals was shattered after losing to Denmark in the second round . In 2002 World Cup, Nigeria bowed out in the first round. 2006 was even worst, Nigeria didn’t qualify for the 2006 World Cup. In 2010 World Cup, Nigeria was able to qualify for the World Cup after defeating Kenya by 3-2 in Nairaobi. However, Nigeria was eliminated in the group stage. The 2014 World Cup saw Nigeria eliminated in the 16th round of the world cup. In 2018, Nigeria became the first African team to qualify for the Russia World Cup. Their faith in the 2018 World Cup is yet to determined!
