BVN stands for Bank verification number and is implemented by the Central Bank of Nigeria to curb illegal and suspicious activities in the banking system. The BVN is an eleven digit number issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria to an individual after one must have completed the biometric thumb printing and verification.

Each individual has only one BVN and one would have to link the BVN of one’s old account to a new account if one wants to create a new account in another bank or in the same bank.

BVN has been praised for the security measures it offered in Nigeria’s banking system.

Most people don’t know their BVN by heart and hence they would like to know any other possible means to check the BVN number without wasting your time in the bank. This article, therefore, provides a quick guide on how to check your BVN with your phone.

The BVN can be checked using an Unstructured Supplementary Service (USSD) Data code. The code to check BVN is *565#. To check yours, simply dial the code on the phone number you used when you opened your bank account.

Note: if the phone number you dialled the code on is not linked to your bank account, you won’t see your BVN through the phone or number.

You must use the number that is linked to your bank account before this can work. The phone linked to your account is probably the one with which you receive your bank alert.
