The NYSC Saga: Shittu Declared That His Case Isn’t Same As Kemi Adeosun
|The NYSC Saga: Shittu Declared That His Case Isn’t Same As Kemi Adeosun by bossricardo: 6:02 pm On September 24, 2018|
Adebayo shittu, the Minister of communications has stated that he has no case on the ground to answer to, for not participating in the mandatory one year National Youth Service Corps (N.Y.S.C.) scheme.
He has compared his case to that of the former Minister of finance Kemi Adeosun, stating that his case is far more different from hers.
While speaking to journalists on Friday shortly after undergoing the All Progressives Congress (A.P.C.) governorship screening exercise in Abuja, he insisted that he had not broken any law. He had earlier been accused of not participating in the NYSC scheme as required by law even though he graduated from the University before the age of 30 when he would have been qualified for an exemption.
According to Shittu, Kemi Adeosun presented a fake exemption certificate, while he didn’t obtain a certificate.
He said: “I left the university in 1978 and left law school in 1979 and the Constitution holds that anyone who qualifies to contest an election or who has gone through an election and wins, is obligated to move through the house of assembly which I did for four years completely, so it is a form of higher service as far as I am concerned and I am still in service presently.
When asked whether he agrees that he has violated the provisions of the NYSC act, the Minister has this to say: “I don’t see… and I am not worried. Do you see any worry on my face? I don’t think so, except someone has a superior argument and prove it.”
He further stressed why his case wasn’t similar to that of Adeosun by saying: “There is a world of difference. Unfortunately, Kemi had a fake certificate, I didn’t present any. I don’t have one, I simply followed the constitutional requirement that If you are qualified to contest an election, it is compulsory for you to serve the Nation in the capacity that you won an election.”
