HEALTH HAZARDS IN SHOMOLU

I wish to draw your attention to the deplorable health condition in our area and seek your urgent attention in arresting the ugly situation. It is common knowledge that most public roads are now refuse dumps. Refuse lines the major roads and streets, so much so that passers-by now use handkerchiefs to block their nostrils from offending stench which emanates from the wastes.

This poses a great health risk to inhabitants of Shomolu. A visit t o our Health Centre reveals a rise in the number of patients who suffer from one form of lung diseases or another. Some of the patients have died since they had no means to buy the expensive d***s prescribed for them. The situation is so pathetic that one sees corpses in every corner of the hospital unattended to. Moreover, the local authority morgue is filled to the brim and t his is worsened by the epileptic supply of electricity in recent times.

Sir, you know that t he only 500KV generating plant in the Health Centre mortuary broke down last month. The environment now stinks to heavens. Only your timely intervention can save our community from an outbreak of air-borne diseases as a result of the decomposing corpses in the morgue. A stitch in time saves nine. Furthermore, our community is being threatened by the constant industrial fumes from a few factories and firms. The fumes pose greater healthy hazards to us. The air in the locality is continually saturated with the industrial fumes, even late in the evenings.

I would like to suggest that you immediately call the erring factories to order. They should adopt a more civilized and decent way of waste disposal. Enough of the wastes and fumes dispersal! If these practices persist, I advise you to use the big stick to bring the factories to compliance. I would appreciate your timely response and action in tackling the health risks threatening our very existence.
