What Every Student Should Do With There Second Semester Break by : 5:45 am On August 23, 2018

What every student should do with there #holiday. It’s six months into the year, and you’d wonder why anyone should be setting their resolutions at this time.

holidays work

Well, the reason is simple. There was a lot of noise in the first half, too many resolutions to make. A number (if not all) of those resolutions have been broken. So we think it might be a good time to rethink and reset your objectives for the year.

It is still 2018. And you are work in progress, looking to become a better you. The one that will excel at academics, become closer to your dreams, get that internship, reach world class quality while maintaining a grade point average (GPA) you can be proud of.

Because you have these tall dreams, you can still do some things differently this year;

1. Plan and set targets– Everyone does this but one practical way we ensure this process is effective is to ask, where do I seek improvement? Your GP, work preparation, spiritual life, development of your talent? Write these goals down. Make it few, Say 2 or 3. You can add more in 3 months’ time. Work on these 3 exclusively. Then set targets. This could be: by September 30th, I must be able to speak coherently and plausibly to a crowd of 30 people or, I must

have a semester GPA of 4.7. Now, how do you achieve this? Write it out…

2. Intern/work this year — One major reason why Nigerian graduates are unemployable is that until 21 when they graduate, most have never held a job/responsibility until they graduate. Unlike foreign students who start a form of work at 12. It does not have to be at an investment bank or big firms like Google, they flip a burger, deliver pizza, wait at a table etc. Work is totally different from schooling and you would not know the difference until you get into the workplace. In fact, we find that most candidates who have interned or work appreciate our Academy more. They always come back asking to learn more technical skills.

3. Connect to the world — Try to achieve competence/mastery of a skill or competence that the world demands. The idea of a stable job after school or a career of 30 years is gone. Try to learn the demands of a world that are changing faster than anyone understands. Learn music, international politics, read up the internet of things, machine learning, blockchain technology. Read a newspaper every day, be a citizen of the world. Your course is stale!

— in the end, it is the soft skills that define us. Prepare for leadership. Learn teamwork, problem-solving, ability to articulate your thoughts. Think on your feet.

This second half, be open-minded. Join global associations, contribute to a cause. You will need these skills now and in the futur,e, you are building!
