*MY EXPERIENCE IN TASUEDSU ELECTORAL TRIBUNAl
Someone I defeated in an election (despite massive electoral malpractice in his favour) was announced as the winner by ITEC. The same day, Independent Press Council (IPC) claimed that the video evidence of how the votes was recounted got formatted on their memory card but what I saw at electoral tribunal made realize that what I experienced in the past are just preamble.

After what happened from the end of ITEC, I decided to forward a petition to the school authority and electoral tribunal not because I know the tribunal will favour me but because:

  1. I want to fulfill all constitutional righteousness.

  2. I know they have all the structures up to state level but I want to challenge the status quo they believe in.

The court sitting was stated for 9am on Monday but due to some examinations that was held that day, it was delayed and it started properly around 11am.

The registrar of the tribunal (Justice Zacheaus Tosin) opened floor for the court hearing to commence. Immediately after that, the tribunal chairman (Obiora Joshua) called for me (the petitioner) to dock myself without calling for appearance of the solicitors on ground.
My luminary lawyer (Barr. Dada Talib) called his attention to the first mistake of the tribunal chairman and he called for the introduction of tribunal members and solicitors.

Everybody introduced themselves but when the tribunal chairman introduced himself, another thing happened. He stood up while introducing himself because others did so and he even introduced himself as Comrade Obiora Joshua.

Haba! a whole tribunal chairman is a comrade while his registrar was a justice. This triggered another question from my solicitor but all the tribunal chairman had to say was that an in-house election was conducted among the tribunal members to make him the tribunal chairman even though he’s not a member of Students Bar Association (SBA).

After saying this, he called for a recess in a sitting that is yet to last for 20 minutes to receive more orientation and rehearse more on what to do next.

They came out together with members of IPC when the recess was over and the next thing they was to instruct all observers to switch off their camera that no one should capture the process apart from IPC members. Observers refuses to obey the tribunal because their trust in IPC has been tampered with. Before we realize what they had in plan, the tribunal called the school marshal to start intimidating observers (students like the tribunal members).

In the tribunal’s quest to adjourn the hearing, they brought out an error in my petition and instructed me to re-present it.

To me, I don’t see the arangee court hearing as a serious one because the accused (ITEC) representative was not on sit and no solicitor was sitting on her behalf.

MY QUESTIONS:
1. In a sane society, is it possible for a non legal practitioner to preside over a court hearing?

  1. Can the tribunal please differentiate between court session and interrogative session?

If only the tribunal can answer these questions with optimum sincerity, I and my ever reasonable TASUEDITES will give room for the chairman to continue presiding at the court.

However, I still remain the Elected President in the face of Tasuedites, by definition of free and fair election.
