Debate: Female Children Are More Beneficial than Male Children to Their Parents by prosper: 10:34 pm On May 7, 2018 |
You are the chief speaker in a debate on the topic: Female children are more beneficial than male children to their parents. Writer out your speech for or against the motion. FEMALE CHILDREN ARE MORE BENEFICIAL TO PARENTS THAN MALE Mr. Chairman, Distinguished Listeners, Ladies and Gentlemen, good day to you all. I stand before you at this August occasion to propose the motion which states that: Female children are more beneficial than male children to their parents. The reasons for my stand are discussed below. Firstly, female children are more useful to their parents than male children from the domestic point of view. From the age of two, female children begin to show traits of industry. They start to help their parents in domestic chores such as cooking, fetching water, washing plates, washing clothes and dresses, ironing and mapping of floors. On the other hand male children are not helpful to their parents at all. This is because they are fond of playing football about. They only return home o eat when they are hungry. But the food they eat is prepared by female children. Secondly, parents in some parts of Nigeria received huge amount of money as ‘bride price’ on their female children. In some parts of the Middles Belt and Eastern Nigeria, over one hundred and fifty thousand Naira is paid on a single girl by the suitor. In most cases, the money is spent by the parents to provide accommodation or to educate the younger members of the family. Perhaps such parents would have never attempted to build a house of their own if not for the large sum of money they get as ‘bride price’ on their girls. The opposite is the case for the parents of the groom who pay heavily to bring a female child to their homes. Such, if not well done can cause the groom’s parents financial difficulties. Who says female children are no assets to their parents? Thirdly, female children are more sympathetic to parents than male children, particularly at old age. Once a male child is married, it is believed that he has got a family of his own therefore he is less arrest. When married is still much sympathetic to her parents. She know what to do to get money from her husband to cater for her parents. From time to time she goes to see to the welfare of her parents. However, when a male child sees his wife and children, he believes he is complete, that is why men travel for years without checking their parents’ welfare. Furthermore, female children are more beneficial than male children to their parents. Male children are open to danger and risk. They often embark on dangerous activities such as violence, secret cult and so on. Such activities are easily detected by the law enforcement agents and the repercussion is mass arrest. When arrested, t he parents are thrown into confusion, they begin to borrow to bail out their male children from detention. On the other hand, female children are different. They comport themselves, and do not engage in risky ventures and never put their parents in financial difficulties. So from the above analysis one will know that female children are more beneficial than male children as the former give rest of mind to their parents than the latter. That is the more reason why parents of mostly male children are afraid of going on long journey due to mischievous activities of their boys, not girls. Ladies and Gentlemen, my learned opponent submitted that male children are ore beneficial than female ones because they retain their parents names after marriage, but I beg to disagree. This is so because there is nothing so special about names. I think that the concept of a ‘compound’ name’ is now gaining ground all over the world. This is the combination of a female’s maiden name and that of the husband family such as Mrs. C.O. Benjo – Coker, Mrs Kuforiji – Olubi, etc. Essentially, highly educated Nigerian women now combine their maiden names with their husbands’ family names. Mr. Chairman, distinguished Ladies and Gentlemen, there is no iota of doubt in my mind that I have convinced the audience, including the doubting Thomas’s, beyond every shadow of doubt that female children are more beneficial more, sympathetic, more generous and less troublesome than their male counterparts to their parents.
