HOW TO SURVIVE TRAFFIC IN LAGOS STATE by : 6:58 pm On August 1, 2018

The traffic in Lagos State is capable of making a hitherto sane person go mental. The roads and streets of Lagos State are blocked due to the high movement of persons daily. Many persons come to Lagos to hustle with the mindset of being successful or “blowing”. This is why there are always lots of persons on the road at all times, even at midnight.

The following tips can help us overcome the traffic situation and beat the traffic. It is all about being smart.

  1. USE PUBLIC TRANSPORT WHEN YOU CAN: This may sound ridiculous to those that have vehicles, but the major cause of traffic in Lagos State is over-population. Too many vehicles are on the road at all times. The Lagos State Government has introduced BRT and LAG BUSES which are quite comfortable as modes of public transportation. These vehicles carry more persons than the conventional commercial buses (danfo) and will thus reduce the amount of vehicles on the road.
  2. FOLLOW YOUR NEIGHBOR WHERE POSSIBLE: In the event that you do not wish to use public transport, but you have a neighbour or colleague who plies the same route as you do, do not hesitate to accompany them on your journey. This will also reduce the number of vehicles in traffic.
  3. UNDERSTAND RUSH HOUR BEHAVIOUR: The Lagos traffic is almost predictable with mathematical accuracy. One can be so sure of when to meet traffic on particular roads during the rush hour. Hence, if you can understand when the peak rush hours are, you can time your movement to avoid getting into traffic at such time.
  4. EAT WELL BEFORE YOU HIT THE ROAD: A hungry man is a very angry man. When you are hungry and you are behind the wheels, you tend to make erroneous judgments. So it is best to be in a very cool frame of mind before hitting the road.
  5. DO NOT GO OUT AT ALL: This is simply the best solution. Stay in your house!

With these tips, you should be able to beat the Lagos traffic. Have a great day!
