Issues of unemployment should be tackled before fighting against corruption in Nigeria by akinbowale: 1:20 am On August 2, 2018 |
Despite the federal government efforts to fight against corruption in Nigeria, it seems the so-called corruption keep spreading its branches day by day. Actually, this is what we should expect in a country like Nigeria where students graduate from higher institutions of learning every year but they become idle and useless in their community all because there is no job for them. So, fighting against corruption without ironing out issues of unemployment first in Nigeria is just like fetching water in a basket: nothing changes, everything remains the same. It is painful that despite all the youth’s effort while they were in school starting from their nursery and primary school days to tertiary institutions apparently become a waste as soon as they graduate because the hope of getting a good job is narrow. While in school, they undergo lots of stress, burning of midnight candles, money spent on tuition and academic materials and so on hoping that everything will turn around for good once they are through and they can take care of their own responsibilities, cater for their parents and younger ones. But they graduate and still have to stay in their parent’s house and look up to them for finances because they have no job and they are idle. As it is said that an idle hand is the devil’s workshop, different thoughts start running through their minds in order to make money and become financially stable. Nowadays, unemployed youths have turned out to be involved in armed robbery, different kind of frauds and all forms of illegal and corrupt activities just to get food, shelter and clothing. Frustration is a destiny killer and has destroyed the mind of many youth’s to the extent that they do not care about the repercussion/outcome of whatsoever their actions might be. I will implore the government that the first step to be taken in fighting against corruption in Nigeria is to build more organisations and create enough employment for youth’s.
