One of the country that is so blessed in the world is Nigeria, due to vast mineral resources in the land, but there is a problem with the leadership who are not able to harness those resources for the benefit of the citizens, and this leads to abject poverty in the land.
One of the major reason reasons is that, we don’t have leaders who are visionaries, they don’t see beyond their present, and they don’t make long term plans , what they majorly focus on is the present. What they can get now to enrich themselves and their families, they store up money that should be use for developing the country and human resources for their personal ambitions.
The leaders that comes into power don’t really have a blueprint of how they will develop the country, it is when they assume power that is when they try to make plans. This alone has shown that they have prepared to fail. This is one problem with Nigeria leadership. They only come campaign promises which does not really have any concrete blueprint.
The syndrome of continuity is a big problem lingering in the Nigeria leadership, whereby present government in most cases will not want to continue from where the past administration stopped, the present administration will abandon projects that huge amount of money have been spent on and try to allocate budget for a different project. This alone is wastage of the nation resources, whereby projects of past government is allowed to rut.
The may reason for such wastages is selfish interest, they looking for ways to steal public money, that is why they always create new projects and inflate the money for the projects, in doing so part of the money goes to their personal account. Nigeria as a nation cannot move forward, due to the kind of leaders that we have, they focus on today and what they can get now.
