The Northern Government Declination To End Child Labour by aniekpeno1: 11:49 pm On June 18, 2018 |
It is very disheartening that the streets of Lafia ,the Nasarawa state capital are fraught with children roaming about with rubber plate begging for food and money. These group of under age citizens now turn both the old and modern markets to their hubs thereby neglecting western Education and its essences.
The most prominent once among these sect are identified as the Amajeris; which are the people favorites are spotted everywhere going door to door with plate complaining of hunger. Due to this some heartless humans overuse them on different errands; like fetching water ,washing clothes and carrying out difficult tasks that are above their ages with the hope of getting food in return; a complete Child Abuse, Labour and Stigmatization.
Some of these children have parents but they cannot be able to cater for their daily needs due to numerous number of them per household.
The lazy parents instead of working hard to make ends meet, they are competing to have a dozen of children per mother in their polygamic settings.
The non- Amajeris have the motivation to beg because they saw old men and women who have two hands and legs with a functional visual tool begging with years of experience.
The Government on his part is doing nothing to influence and stop this situation, by not only embarking on free education but a free, compulsory and by-a-force education.A method used by the former Governor of Akwa Ibom state Chief Godswilll Akpabio during his tenure to harness child labour. Any child found hawking on the streets of Uyo, the Akwa Ibom state capital during school hours was arrested alongside parents/guidances.
