About WAEC (WASSCE) 2025/ 2026
The acronym WAEC stands for West African Examinations Council. It is the body responsible for the conduct of West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

The West African countries that participate in WASSCE are Ghana , Nigeria , Sierra Leone , Liberia , and the Gambia . They are the five West African countries that have adopted WAEC as the body for the senior school certificate examination.

WAEC certificate is recognised globally and one can use it to gain admission into some prominent universities in the UK, Canada etc.

WAEC conducts about 8 different types of examinations every year. For the senior school certificate examination, there are three types of examinations for candidates. The three are (1) WASSCE FOR PRIVATE CANDIDATES (FIRST SERIES) (2) WASSCE FOR (SCHOOL CANDIDATES) and (3) WASSCE FOR PRIVATE CANDIDATES (MAIN WAEC GCE) SEPTEMBER–OCTOBER

These three examinations are not written at the same time. The WASSCE FOR PRIVATE CANDIDATES (FIRST SERIES) is written in January while WASSCE for school candidates is written between March and May and WAEC for Private Candidates (Main WAEC GCE) is written between September and October.

The date for the WAEC (WASSCE) 2019/2020 examination depends on the series where you fall in. I have already talked about the months when these examinations usually take place.

WAEC WASSCE 2025/2026 FOR PRIVATE CANDIDATES (FIRST SERIES) Examination Date
The WAEC WASSCE 2025/2026 Private candidates (First Series) examination will take place in January 2025 but the actual date and time (as of the time of writing this article) have not been announced.

WAEC WASSCE 2025/2026 FOR (SCHOOL CANDIDATES)

This series is for normal senior secondary school candidates. It is the type that most students take. The exam usually starts between March and May. The actual date and time for WAEC WASSCE 2025/2026 FOR (SCHOOL CANDIDATES) examination have not been announced.

WAEC WASSCE 2025/2026 for Private Candidates (Main WAEC GCE)

This one is the main WAEC GCE and it is for private students. It is usually written after school candidates might have vacated schools. It takes place between September and October.
