WHY I SHOULD LIKE TO BE A MEDICAL DOCTOR

There are over a million different professions in the world today but the one I cherish most is to be a medical practitioner. Being a medical practitioner is my life ambition right from when I was in primary school about a decade ago. Even while in primary four, I could still remember when our teacher asked for our cherished future professions most of my mates said they would like to become lawyers, engineers, journalists and teachers. in fact, I was the only one that proffered to study medicine to become a medical practitioner.

Medicine as a career appeals to me for many reasons. The first reason why I am motivated to study medicine is to save life. Saving life is the primary aim of my likeness for medical profession. If I become a medical expert, I would be in a good position to save lives of several hundreds of Nigerians who would have died. It is obvious that my membership of the noble profession will bring succor to the lives of those who suffer from many deadly diseases.

Another notable reason for my likeness for medicine is to make a name for myself through scientific investigations. The most notable professionals in the world today are those who are involved in finding solutions to safety of lives. In no small way I will work assiduously to find permanent cure to some diseases that tend to defy medical knowledge. For example, I will want to go into the area of finding medical solutions to the dreaded AIDS which is the greatest medical problem of the last millennium. I will want to make it a great challenge to break new ground in medical technology.

Moreover, medical practice appeals to me because one can easily establish one’s own. Of all professions today, the easiest to set up on one’s own is medical practice. I will want to work in a University Teaching Hospital where I can undertake specialized and post-graduate professional courses in medicine after my general degrees in medicine. Having worked for some years in such a specialized hospital, acquiring chains of post-graduate degree in medicine, I will like to establish a specialist hospital for treatment of Aids and heart-related problems. I will spend a lot to make the centre a masterpiece and the best of its kind in the whole of Africa.

In addition, I will want to go into medical practice so that I can be an employer of labour in the medical line. I will like to employ both new and experienced medical doctors and nurses. If God crowns my effort, I will establish a private nursing school, the first of its kind in the country. This, to a large extent, will bring about competition between public and private nursing. This will pose a challenge to public nursing schools with a view to achieving professional excellence.

In conclusion, I pray fervently to have the ability and luck to carry out my life ambition and dream career. I have started in a little way by making science subjects my daily songs. Of course medicine as a procession appeals to me more than any other profession in the world.
