4. There has been a violent demonstration in your school in which damage was done to school property. Write a report for the principal, stating the causes of the demonstration and what you think should be done to prevent a recurrence of such an incident.

Sample Answer

Dear Madam,

The violent and destructive students’ demonstration which took place on Monday the 27th of July 1991 was unprecedented in the anals of this institution and it was triggered by three remote and immediate causes. It is a serious thing that both the day and boarding students of this great college exploded on the same date due to many unaddressed known grievances.

The boarders have complained in the past that the quality and quantity of food served were small and bad. The students have in variety of ways hitherto complained to the matron on behalf of the students. Promises were made to improve the situation and nothing happened positively.

The day students have always laid the blame of their late coming to school on the doorsteps of the school authorities who have refused to approve additional buses for their transport daily. The one bus approved is rickety, slow and small.

The rice and beans breakfast was burnt and consequently had a bitter taste. The boarders refused to eat it and instead marched round the compound singing solidarity songs. The aggrieved day students also joined the march.

Later they became violent and destructive, torching the quarters where the principal and his vice live. The matron’s home staff room, some teachers who were alleged to have been corrupt or partial in their assessment were not spared. The rickety bus was burnt. May be we should thank God for the absence of most of the staff and the families of the senior school officials.

I sincerely pray that you will use your good offices first to institute an investigative panel to find out more on the immediate and remote causes of the demonstration. They will also assess the damage and proffer solutions so that such an incident will not recur.
